Nice museum, easy visit

Checked out Tellus for the first time. Got general admission tickets when we got there. It wasn't too busy which was good. The kids liked the Collins Family My Big Backyard area a lot. We wandered through the mineral exhibits for a bit too, they had some pretty neat rocks. Took about 3 hours to see most things. Parking was easy. Pretty chill day.

Loved the fossils!

What an awesome day we had at Tellus! We went specifically for the fossil gallery and it did not disappoint. The dinosaur skeletons were incredible. The kids had a blast doing the fossil digging too, it was so much fun! We also caught a digital planetarium show, which was super cool. I'm already planning another trip back soon. Definitely recommending this place to everyone I know!

Fun day, smooth experience

I booked general admission tickets and also added on planetarium show tickets online a week before our visit. The website was easy to navigate for purchasing. When we arrived, check-in was pretty fast, just showed our confirmation email. The staff at the front desk were helpful. We spent most of our time in the Weinman Mineral Gallery and the Science in Motion Gallery. Everything was clean and well-maintained. We even tried the gem mining, which cost extra but the kids really enjoyed it. Overall, a well-organized and enjoyable day out. Parking was free which was nice.

Membership was a good deal

I was looking for a good value for our family and decided on the family membership. It felt like a solid investment after just two visits. We used it for general admission and the planetarium show. The savings were noticeable compared to buying individual tickets each time, especially since my kids love the place. Definitely worth the cost for repeat visits.

Hey, planning a trip from out of state. How far in advance do you really need to snag planetarium tickets? Don't wanna get there and miss out.

A Alex Gomez 4 weeks ago
Honestly, for a weekend or holiday, I'd get 'em ahead of time if you have a specific show you wanna see. They do fill up, especially the popular ones.

During the week, you can probably just walk up, but on a busy day, totally worth buying online beforehand. Learned that the hard way once lol.

Is the gem mining included with general admission? Or do you have to pay extra for that when you get there?

M Michelle Phillips 3 weeks ago
Nah, gem mining is extra. It's usually a separate purchase at the little stand where you do it. My kids love it though, so budget for it!

It's an add-on, not part of the main ticket. But they give you a cool bag of dirt with gems, so it's kinda worth it for the experience.

I'm a Bank of America customer, does that 'Museums on Us' thing work at Tellus? Trying to decide between them and Fernbank for a free weekend.

Z Zach Parker 1 week ago
Yes! Tellus is definitely on the Museums on Us list. My mom uses her BofA card there all the time to get in free. Just flash your card and ID.

Yep, it works! Make sure it's the first full weekend of the month. Free admission for cardholders.

Thinking of taking the family to Tellus next month. Does anyone know if they do any kind of military discount? My husband is active duty.

S Sam Garcia 3 weeks ago
Yeah, they totally do! Just show his military ID at the ticket counter when you get there. My brother-in-law used his last time.

I think most museums have some kind of military thing. Worth asking at the box office for sure, they're usually pretty good about it.

Anyone know if you can bring your own snacks or drinks into Tellus? Just trying to save a few bucks on lunch for the kids.

J Jacob Jones 3 weeks ago
You can bring food, but you gotta eat it in the designated areas, like outside or in the picnic spots. They don't want you munching in the galleries.

I've seen people with small bags and water bottles, no problem. Just don't bring a full picnic to eat by the dinosaurs, haha.
